Beginners Corner
I want to first of all give Thanks for all the Wonderful people I have met or shared a smile with in the Line Dancing Community. It can be a great activity to escape sadness, deppression and worrying about things One cannot change. As a beginner I have invested some time trying to learn line dances and have attended a few events . Each time I walk away wanting to learn more. I realize as a Beginner it is good to vist other classes held in the Phila area in addition to my weekly class. By venturing out I learned even more beginner friendly dances that are so much FUN to do!. The exposure to other Instructors made me realize that there are some real bargains out there in addition to good Instructors !

Brooklyn Eds
held Fridays @7pm-1am Dowlings Place for$5.00 you get 2 hours of line dance instruction with Ed Williams,then a mix of line dance and party music till 1 am. Wine and Beer ,Water and a lite meal is also included .

for $5.00 You can learn some great line dances with Hassan and Chris Blues from 6pm-8pm .Also included is a really delicious meal ,then You can dance ,dance ,dance until 11:30pm
Athritis Friendly Line Dance Class
with Ellen Smalls held on Fridays @ 10 am-1130 Reformation for $5.00 .You get line dance class ,Cd filled with music for all dances for the month along with printed step sheets. Printed information for all upcoming line dance events and Hot coffee, juice, water and donuts ! Gathering ye rosebuds dancing

I'm a frustrated muso and while I have played a little bit of this and that my illness thwarted my instrumental engagement because my reflexes have stiffened and any capacity to hold the music in my head failed me. Since I cannot easily remember proper nouns and numbers -- verbs and adjectives won't get you very far with sheet music.
But -- and here's the really thrilling part -- I discovered that I can commit dance steps to memory because I can associate the moves with the beat andwith the melody. Each element , it seems, reinforces the other inside my brain and I get to dance because I can remember the steps.
Dancers learn to repeat things not just with their bodies, but also with their hands and in words. This process of repeating what you just saw or heard until you've committed it to memory is a skill, and it serves dancers in all aspects of life, both inside the studio and out. (ref)
Any remembrance is sweet when you are threatened by poor recall. I can lay out a whole presentation in my head and deliver it the way I planned in front of an audience but I cannot commit one line of text to memory. True: not one line.
But I can take a sequence of dance steps and a accession of dances -- and replicate them.
Dance Therapy

And that's so true.
Despite my stiffening musculature I can make my tootsies go places they have not visited before.
The late English comic actor Terry Thomas suffered from Parkinsons Disease and made a remark once that makes so much sense to me:
"Sometimes I don't sleep very well, and when I wake up I get a piece of chocolate and I have to go through a door from my bedroom to the kitchen where the chocolate is. One night, coming to the door, I couldn't get through it and I had to force my way through. It was as if one's feet were glued to the ground. I've tried tricks like dancing thorough and sometimes it's worked."
You betcha Terry. I don't have his malady but the fact that I can dance when I can hardly walk is such a wondrous discovery. I'm no Fred Astaire of course, but to do this when I am so often so physically challenged is amazing.
Talk about happy feet! Dancing does indeed stop the pain.
I used to think that the endorphins produced by exercise were the ruling opiate. I used to wallow in a Runner's High when I was a jogger way back when, so I knew there was something on offer if you sweated up. But I didn't expect such Zenhood from dancing -- in point of fact, dance with repetitive movements like line dancing.
We tend to think of dance class more as a rite of passage for elementary-school girls than a therapeutic outlet, but mounting scientific evidence suggests a surprising range of psychological benefits, from greater calm and elevated mood to an expanded sense of fulfillment and control. "Dance allows people to experience themselves in ways they didn't know they could," says Miriam Berger, a dance professor and dance therapist at New York University. This Diva truly did the “Go Hard or Go Home” this weekend! My behind is still dragging; however I do plan on going to class today (haha). Here are the highlights of the weekend: Friday Aline Goodman had “Line Dance Made Easy” 7pm to 1am. I started dancing soon as my little Blue sneakers hit the wood and there wasn’t a darn thing “easy” about it (lol). Saturday Lucia Jones had “Giving Back to the Community Line Dance Party” 1pm to 7pm; my legs were doing a little protest from being abused the night before after weeks of neglect (yikes). But you know that didn’t stop a chocolate child from kicking it Old School in her little Red sneakers with Chris Blues aka Sweet Cheeks as the DJ. And it was so nice I had to do it twice because on Sunday DJ Blues and Da Teacha Hassan had the “Line Dance Brunch” at Parkside 12pm to 4pm. This time my pretty Pink sneakers took center stage and it was off the hook. It really is the simple things in life; good food, good friends, and good wood. See you on a dance floor soon.

God's "Pharmacy"
It's been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden, made animals and fish......all before making a human. He made and provided what we'd need before we were born. We're such slow learners.....God left us a great clue as to what foods help what part of our body! Just take a look!
A carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye. And YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.
A tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.
Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.
A walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than (3) dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function.
Kidney beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.
Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.
Avocados, eggplant and pears target the health and function of the womb and cervex of the female. They look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and possibly can prevent cervical cancers. And how profound is this? It takes exactly (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. Each one of these foods have tremendous nutritional value.
Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of sperm as well to overcome male sterility.
Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.
Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries.
Oranges, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits look like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.
Onions look like the bodies cells. Today's research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes. A working companion, garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.
